Ormskirk Writers' & Literary Society - OWLS - was established in 1963 by Dora Doyle to promote local writers. Founder member Ron Bartholomew contributed to the Waverly Encyclopaedias and was widely published in Practical Mechanics Magazine. A successful playwright, he opened his house to us for weekly meetings and served us with tea and home made cakes for many years. As Otis lifts Chief Engineer he also designed the press button control boxes used in lifts to this day. ALT="Ormskirk Writers' & Literary Society">

Publicising our society at Ormskirk Library

Members are invited to assist at a promotional event at Ormskirk Library 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.on Monday April 26th 2010 to can publicise the work of our society.

The library's online directory of local organisations, the Lancashire Lantern WiCi provides contact details for local societies with information about their aims, activities, times and place of meetings etc.

When a society is registered in this directory, the entry can be updated directly by one of its officials. We may publicise our own promotional events and meetings in this way.

The library hope to show society officials how to register and update their society's entry and, in addition, show other library customers how to search the database to find information about other groups and organisations in Lancashire.

We have booked to attend this event with our own publicity table and information leaflets to publicise our group and advertise for new members.

Library Staff will be available to show how to search for information on groups in Lancashire and how to register our own society details.

If you already have internet access, the Lantern WiCi can be found at:
