Ormskirk Writers' & Literary Society - OWLS - was established in 1963 by Dora Doyle to promote local writers. Founder member Ron Bartholomew contributed to the Waverly Encyclopaedias and was widely published in Practical Mechanics Magazine. A successful playwright, he opened his house to us for weekly meetings and served us with tea and home made cakes for many years. As Otis lifts Chief Engineer he also designed the press button control boxes used in lifts to this day. ALT="Ormskirk Writers' & Literary Society">

Notice for Monday APRIL 26TH

Dear Sir/Madam
Re: Publicising your society at Ormskirk Library
I would like to invite you to a promotional event at Ormskirk Library on the morning of
Monday 26 April 2010 when you can publicise the work of your society.
We are publicising the library's online directory of local organisations, the Lancashire
Lantern WiCi. This provides contact details for local societies with information about their
aims, activities, times and place of meetings etc.
When a society is registered in this directory, it is possible for the entry to be updated
directly by one of your officials and you may publicise your own promotional events and
meetings in this way.
We are hoping to show society officials how to register and update their society's entry and,
in addition, show you and other library customers how to search the database to find
information about other groups and organisations in Lancashire.
If you would like to attend this event with your own publicity stand and/or information
leaflets to publicise your group and advertise for new members, please complete the form
below and return to Ormskirk Library. Early replies are advised since we will only have space
to host six societies with their stands and leaflets.
Even if you cannot or do not wish to bring a publicity stand to the event, I should be grateful
if you would bring this information to the attention of all your members who may be
interested in attending in an individual capacity. Staff will be available to show them both
how to search for information on groups in Lancashire and how to register their own society
details.
If you already have internet access, the Lantern WiCi can be found at:
www.lancashire.gov.uk/lanternwici
I do hope you or some of your members will be able to attend; for further information,
please contact Sheila Galligan at Ormskirk Library on 01695 573448 or
Sheila.galligan@lancashire.gov.uk
Yours sincerely
Jane Berry
District Manager
