Ormskirk Writers' & Literary Society - OWLS - was established in 1963 by Dora Doyle to promote local writers. Founder member Ron Bartholomew contributed to the Waverly Encyclopaedias and was widely published in Practical Mechanics Magazine. A successful playwright, he opened his house to us for weekly meetings and served us with tea and home made cakes for many years. As Otis lifts Chief Engineer he also designed the press button control boxes used in lifts to this day. ALT="Ormskirk Writers' & Literary Society">

Event at Engine Rooms, Skelmersdale. 6th August “Letters Home”

Carol informed us that there is online Mag. Inviting articles and fictional stories regarding cats. Carol has had her “Scaredy Cat” accepted. Check online.

Comedy Script Night.

There were 5 offerings that gave most of us a chance to take parts in the plays.

1. Judy offered “Fantasy Playground” A follow up from her crude paragraph created in the last session.

2. Cec gave us another rather questionably crude French version of “A pp yness” in his “French Visitors.”

3. Carol entertained with another “Mop and Bucket” episode which carried on the theme!

4. Keith cleaned us all up with “Life’s little Dramas” Beastly Love!!!

5. Julie in true character finished us off with her version of “The Waste of Time Team in the Lost Pyramids of Burscough!!”

Laughter ruled the session and after the break handbags were emptied to give practical suggestions for writing on the hoof, using a baby furry giraffe, a lipstick, a tape-measure and other such sundries. Comedy continued to rule until we closed down just after 9.30pm.

NEXT TIME AUG. 2ND. Work in Progress/ Manuscript night.

In other words bring anything of around 1,000 words that you would like
